NAFCR is the only national organization solely committed to supporting and promoting foster care review as an essential tool for helping to ensure the permanency and safety of children in foster care.
Foster care review is mandated by federal law as a legal protection and safeguard for children in care. The Adoption & Safe Families Act’s (ASFA) focus on results and accountability significantly strengthens the need for and value of foster care review.
More than half the children in foster care in this country ,however, do not receive the benefit of a regular, thorough review of their case by independent authorities.
In communities that do provide review safeguards, many foster care reviewers report great frustration in influencing case and system improvements-their findings and recommendations have no “teeth”.
